Use it or lose it.

The first of a new wave of Post Office closures has begun with Queens Rd, Southport. John Pugh has written to all of Southport 's sub postmasters to try to find out how bad the position is.

" Some are thinking already in terms of closure but those that want to stay in business are complaining of underhand tactics by government departments. People are being talked out of using their local post offices by many benefits agencies or not being told they have the option. The Post Office Card account which allows people to bank with the Post Office is not being explained.
When the local sub post office goes we find that small parades of shops follow suit. The heart is ripped out of local communities. I have spoken with hundreds of Post Office users who want to continue to use the service but are being directed by the government to the commercial banks. Its now a case of use or it lose it. If people are not loyal to their local office it may be one of the 3000 the government are looking to close."
